WHAT WE OFFER
Some things remain timeless. That’s how we feel about our traditional 212-step manufacturing process that has been the basis for handcrafted shoes since decade. Yes, that’s a lot of work for one pair of shoes and we certainly feel a sense of pride to offer ever-evolving comfort of a hand stitched leather shoe as compared to a rigid, machine made product. The signature hand-stitching details allow the shoe to adjust specifically to your foot shape. From the leather-lined contoured shoe bed, to hand stitched leather sole and stacked heel topped with a rubber strike, each element exalts the prestige of the shoe in its entirety. All of the men’s and women’s shoes in our proprietary collection are made in Pakistan, Traditional shoe manufacturing has deep roots in that country, and there are many experts in the field working there, supported by an excellent infrastructure. This is where beautiful shoes are made—with a great deal of dedication, a love of detail, and following the dictates of traditional craftsmanship. Come join us on a brief tour of our factory.
At ZK enterprises we use only fine leathers that breathe, repel moisture and hold their shape and age gracefully. That’s why our development team searches the globe looking for premium hides for our shoes.
Designs are stenciled in the design department; these stencils are used as guides for cutting pieces of leather in the punching shop. The leather pieces are cut by hand with a trimming knife, and are later used to form the shaft of the shoe.
In the stitching department, the various parts of the shaft are stitched together. The seams on the shaft are sewn with threads of varying thicknesses and stitches of varying sizes, creating a decorative effect. Our qualified employees working in the departments responsible for nest production; each one contributes to the challenging production process behind our high-quality shoes.
The key tool used during the assembly stage is the last, a mould that the shoe is constructed around. First, the outsole is provisionally fastened beneath the last with a few nails. A small rubber ridge is then affixed to the insole. This will later aid in stitching the shaft to the shoe edge. The laced shoe shaft is then stretched over the last and secured to the insole.
Finally, the shoes move to the last stages of manufacturing. We’ve developed hand-finishing and polishing techniques that highlight the natural appearance of the leather while simultaneously protecting it from the elements. The shoes remain in the last for at least 24 hours to ensure that they hold their shape for a lifetime. From there, it’s on to final inspection. We take quality control very seriously, because only the best of the best leave the factory
WE OFFER 02 TYPES OF
The two-level stitching makes it incredibly easy to resole a goodyear welted shoe. Because the welt acts as a buffer between the insole and the outsole, removing the old sole and attaching a new one can be done by machine or by hand and without a specific machine. The extra layers make the shoe more water resistant and supportive.
The first part of the process is preparing the insole for stitching. This is done by creating a perpendicular “rib” that runs across the insole. We create the rib by cutting and sculpting the insole,
The second step is to last the shoe. This is done by stretching the outsole over the last and attaching it, along with the insole, to the last. At this point shoe-specific thread is sewn through the welt, the upper, and the insole rib. Through a separate stitch, the welt is attached to the outsole. For both of these stitching points, a lockstitch is used – meaning the chain won’t unravel if it breaks down at any particular point in the shoe.
For a Blake welt, the upper is wrapped around the insole and attached between it and the outsole. A single stitch attaches everything together. Blake welting is also superior when seeking a close-cut sole. Because there are no exterior stitches, the body of the outsole can be cut extremely close to the upper. Lastly, because it has fewer layers than a Goodyear welt, a Blake-welted sole is more flexible.
All of our shoe leather taken from domestic hides and mildly tanned in strict compliance with environmentally-friendly regulations. We use leather soles which uses the plant-based tanning method. We also exercise the same degree of caution in selecting our exotic leathers. All of the leathers used to make our exotic shoes have been sourced from specialized breeders who work in compliance with CITES guidelines.
